History / Genealogy Department houses a major collection of photography
documenting the development of the American West. The gallery exhibits
will introduce you to topics chosen from the collection.

F. Barry
The
Barry collection includes portraits of famous Native American
chiefs, warriors, scouts, women, Sitting Bull, Rain in the
Face, and Red Cloud, images of the Buffalo Bill Cody Wild
West Show, and military photographs.

M. Rhoads
Harry
Rhoads made photographs in Colorado for almost 60 years. He
took pictures of leading celebrities and socialites of his
day, crimes, tragedies, and people. Harry's great sense of
humor shows in many of the approximately 2,500 images we have
available online.

S. Poley
Horace
Poley photographed Colorado towns, prospectors, Native American
Utes, ruins at Mesa Verde, and a variety of other interesting
subjects, between about 1900 and 1935. Our scans of his hand-colored
lantern slides are of special interest.
