City and County of Denver Building Permits

The Denver Public Library has these for 1889-1892 and 1900-1955. Knowing the approximate date of construction and legal description will help in searching the building permit files. From 1889 to 1914, these records are in handwritten ledgers, which have been microfilmed and indexed. These include only locations within the Denver city limits. From 1889 to 1905, these have been transcribed into printed form and are indexed by street name, legal description, and name of owner, builder, and/or architect. The permits from 1905 to 1914 are indexed by the name of the street at the time the permit was issued. These are currently being transcribed and re-indexed like the earlier ones.

After 1914 to about 1955, the building permits are on separate typed or handwritten forms which have been microfilmed. These are in order by address and will often list changes or additions to existing properties.
