The girls wear dresses with puffed sleeves and high collars; boys wear long-sleeved shirts, jackets, and trousers. Several of the students hold open books in their hands. The school teacher, wearing a long dress with puffed sleeves, stands in the back of the room. A rectangular chalkboard is along the wall in the back of the room and on the side walls.
